Welcome To the Wonderful World of Llamas!!
Llamas are South American Camelids that were originally domesticated more than 4,000 years ago. Although llamas have been in the U.S. since the 1940's, it wasn't until 1970 when people began forming their own llama herds throughout the country. By 1996, those numbers increased to well over 100,000.

The care and maintenance of a llama is fairly basic. This includes yearly vaccinations, deworming program, toe-nail trimming, teeth, spring shearing and grooming. Feed should be a good quality hay with a protein level of 10-12%. We use a grain supplement (specifically designed for llamas) only during the extreme cold temps and free choice minerals available at all times.  Occasionally, a llama may need to be on a special feeding program due to health issues, underweight or overweight. We recommend consulting with your vet on the needs for your area.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A LLAMA?
We love to answer this question!!! You can knit, crochet, hug, blanket, hike, pack, weave, socks, caddy, show, guard, companion, alarm, laugh/cry, talk, sledding, obstacle and... Really, the possibilities are endless! During the warmer climate, we are busy showing, going on hikes and doing educational talks/tours about llamas. Life slows down in the Winter allowing us to work with our llama fiber. Days are filled with spinning, tri-loom weaving and dyeing of this wonderful wool.
